The ACFM technique is especially suitable for thread inspection and is being applied to drillstrings, mud motors, studs, bolts and casings.
Threads of any form, male or female, straight or tapered, can be inspected.
In addition to the ATI drillstring inspection system, TSC also offer general purpose thread inspection probes suitable for clients who do not require a full ATI system.

Single Sensor Thread Probe ACFM can replace MPI and dye penetrant inspection, but in addition reports defect severity. For thread inspection, manually deployed probes are available for use with TSC's AMIGO ACFM instrument. The AMIGO can ALSO be used for inspecting welds, bores, etc. by simply changing probes. These probes rely more on the operator and the data requires interpretation by the operator. However, this can provide a very flexible inspection capability and can be used to inspect shoulder areas, tool joints, weld areas and boxes. Probes can be custom-built for a particular thread form, or a general-purpose, universal probe can be used onto which replaceable shoes are bolted for different threads.
