AMIGO FAQ
Can I use
U31 probes with an AMIGO?
Summary : Yes, with an adaptor cable.
Detail : TSC's underwater probes comprise separate probe head and probe cable.
As a result, with an AMIGO to U31 probe adaptor cable, a U31 probe head can
be used with an AMIGO. The adaptor is known as the AMIGO Underwater Probe Cable.
Can I use
AMIGO probes with a U31?
Summary : AMIGO Underwater probes only.
Detail : TSC's underwater probes (U31 or AMIGO) comprise spearate probe head
and probe cable. As a result an AMIGO Underwater probe head can be used in
conjuction with a standard U31 underwater probe cable.
What is the difference between
the Standard and Multi-channel AMIGO?
Summary : Only the Multi-channel AMIGO supports Array Probes.
Detail : The standard AMIGO supports only non-array probes (single pair of
Bx/Bz with optional encoder Bz sensors). The multi-channel AMIGO supports
both
non-array and array probes.
How many channels does the AMIGO instrument
support?
Summary : Standard AMIGO 4 Channels, Array Capable AMIGO
32 channels.
Detail : The standard AMIGO supports standard (2 Chan) and Encoder
Weld (4 Chan) probes. The array capable instrument in a single field
orientation supports up to 32 channels giving a maximum of 16 sensor
pairs (i.e. 16 Bx and 16 Bz sensors). With a twin field orientation
up to a maximum of 24 channels can be used to provide 3 sets of
sensors arranged as 2 fields of 8 sensor pairs (i.e. 8 Bx and 8
Bz in the normal field, with 8 By and 8 Bz in the orthogonal field).
What is the maximum cable length when using RS232 communications
protocol?
Summary : 30m (Longer with RS485).
Detail : The maximum cable length available for RS232 is 30 metres.
However, if longer lengths are required TSC can supply an RS485
based solution that includes an RS485 to RS232 converter for the
PC compatibility.
If I upgrade my AMIGO to high frequency, can I still use low frequency
probes?
Summary : Yes.
Detail : The high-frequency AMIGO supports both high frequency (50
kHz) and standard frequency (5 kHz) probes. Note that each individual
probe operates at its own set frequency (either low or high).
What is the maximum probe cable length?
Summary : 50m for standard probes, 25m for probes with encoders.
Detail : 50m and 25m are the maximum lengths for probes without
and with encoders respectively. A standard probe with a 5m integral
cable can also be used with a 45m extension cable.
