Carbon Fibre Components
A novel use
of TSC's StressProbe is to tackle the problem of stress measurement
in carbon fibres.
This is made
possible by inserting magnetic material into the carbon fibre component
during manufacture.
Because StressProbe
is a non-contact system, is gives significant advantage over the
use of traditional strain gauges that need to be wired causing possible
penetration through the surface of the component leading to paths
for the ingress of damaging fluids/environment
TSC have
introduced magnetic material into novel new offshore riser components
which are essential carbon fibre structures. The measurements that
are then made are non-intrusive and so don't compromise the sealing
of the component. This approach has been successfully used in laboratory
trials and is now being considered for deepwater use offshore.
