Marine Fouling Thickness Measurement

Deployment

The Marine Fouling Thickness Probe can be deployed by diver or ROV. When deployed by diver, a longer cable is used between the probe, and the subsea instrument (typically 5m). When deployed by ROV, the subsea instrument is mounted by the ROV. The diver or ROV is required to push the end of the probe against the marine growth in such a way that the probe is normal to the surface and (if measuring on a tubular member) roughly on the centre-line of the member.

The probe is held in position for a few seconds while a reading is taken by the topside operator. The probe can then be deployed to another location on the structure.
